In today’s stage of life, we have reached the point where social media has become our means of communication and interaction. As we continue living our day-to-day lives behind the screen, many issues have surfaced in regards to the safety and security of every individual. What was once a peaceful and secured place where users could enjoy their leisure and entertainment has become a dangerous place to be in. Sure, there are safety measures that social media websites are putting up to implement safety but we are not assured whether our personal information and identify are well-protected.

A lot of issues found in the internet are mostly because of people who do not know how to be a media literate user. Individuals tend to not read terms & conditions and just click whatever they please. Thus, risking their safety and security. What our generation needs today is proper education, media and information literacy. As what the famous quote says “Knowledge is power.” so we must be willing to learn more so that we may protect ourselves from dangerous scams and individuals.

So how can we have safety and security behind the screen? What should we consider before clicking and sharing information on the different platforms that the World Wide Web offers? We must be very cautious when it comes to using new technologies to avoid unfortunate circumstances. Doing the right thing and making things right must be the top priority of the mass users.

By constantly promoting safety and security, educating every individual and putting up restrictions in the use of the internet and social media sites, we will be able to lessen the dangerous and destructive effects of the global village. Having a private and an exclusive life far from the eyes of many also contributes to safety and security not only for yourself but with other people that are associated with you.

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
